 “Perfection is a Dangerous Goal…”

If you want to be HEALTHY - ‘Perfection’ is a dangerous goal.

I see it all the time…

A person decides they want to lose weight, in an effort to improve their health, gain more energy, increase their confidence and so on.

With this in mind, they devise a Nutrition Plan, and a Workout Program, to help them achieve their goals.

So far, so good.

The problem arises, when PERFECTION is expected.

Anytime you expect yourself to be perfect - you are setting yourself up for pain and failure. Because there isn’t a single person on this planet who is perfect (and there never has been, and never will be).

Sure, you can perfect for a day - or maybe even a few weeks.

And, yes, you can probably follow a workout program EXACTLY as it’s written for a few workouts, or maybe even 4 or 6 weeks.

However, if you expect yourself to be PERFECT in the LONG-RUN…

If you expect yourself to eat PERFECTLY every single day, day-in-day-out…

If you expect yourself to follow your workout program exactly - for months and years on end…

You will FAIL. Miserably.

And, you won’t fail because you are a failure! You’ll fail because you set yourself an unrealistic goal for any Human Being.

Read Carefully:

Long-term PERFECTION isn’t possible for anyone. Not you, not me, and not the next guy or gal. Especially when it comes to health.

And herein lies the beauty of:

‘The 90% Rule’

“This Isn’t The Result of NOT Being ‘Perfect.’ It’s The Result Of One Bad Food Choice After Another!”

The 90% Rule is simple. And awesome.

Just please do not underestimate it’s value - simply because it is SIMPLE! Most of the best techniques and strategies I use are simple. And, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Anyhow, the 90% Rule works like this:

90% of the time you’ll do the ‘right’ thing. You’ll do what’s necessary to succeed.

This will put you so far ahead of the average person, it’s insane.

Honestly, when you do the right thing 90% of the time - the average person sees you as some kind of Superstar (because they cannot understand how you achieve all that you do).

As far as Health goes, the 90% Rule means something like this:

  • You eat well at least 90% of the time
  • You do at least 90% of your planned workouts

This gives you some leeway to be HUMAN!

If you go to the cinema on a Friday night, and have some Popcorn, Candy or Ice Cream - that’s not IDEAL from a Health point-of-view. It’s not PERFECT. But, it is ok!

If you miss a workout, because you had a super stressful day at work, and really just feel like going home and chilling out - that’s ok!

You see how that works?

When you make The 90% Rule your goal - you take all the pressure off of trying to be PERFECT (which, as I’ve said about 157 times in the article already, is impossible in the long-run ;).

If You Don’t Embrace The Rule of 90% - Here’s What Happens (WARNING: it’s Ugly)…

“You Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Be In Shape, or Even to be Financially Successful…”

Let’s get back to our ‘Eat Better and Exercise’ Program - when Weight Loss, more Energy, and Better Overall Health is the goal…

Many people come up with this ‘Perfect’ Diet Plan… and a ‘Perfect’ Workout Program to go with it.

Everything is planned…

WHAT,  and WHEN they’re going to eat…

What days they’ll workout on - and exactly what they’ll do during those workouts.

And, for a few weeks - they stick to it…

Perfectly.

But, then life gets in the way…

They forget to take their healthy lunch with them to work - and end up eating Fast Food instead.

They miss a workout, because a meeting ran late - and they didn’t have time to get to the gym.

And, because they set PERFECTION as the goal - they feel like a FAILED!

So, in their heads, they start coming up with ways to justify more of the same behavior…

“Oh well, I ate fast food yesterday and ruined my plan. So, I might as well just eat whatever I want for the rest of the week, and then get back to it next week

And…

“Geez, I missed Monday’s workout, so I think I’ll take the rest of the month off working out - and I’ll start again, and do it perfectly, next month

This is a slippery path!

A path that almost always leads to continuously starting new ‘Health Adventures’ (read: Diet and Exercise Programs) and never seeing them through. A path that leads to a lack of Overall Health and Vitality (because you’re never even getting close to doing the right things 90% of the time).

A better approach would be to embrace the 90% Rule and say:

“Ok, I forgot to take my healthy lunch to work today, and I ate crap. But, that’s ok, because for the rest of the week I’ll eat great. And, I’ll still have eaten well 90% of the time”

And…

“I’m a bit pissed off that I couldn't make it to the gym today, but what could I do? That meeting ran late and I couldn’t control it. So, it’s ok. I’ll just make sure I workout as planned for the rest of the week”

See how that works?

The 90% Rule is not an excuse to never follow through on a plan. However, it is a way to help you realize that 90% is damn good, that it’s ok to sometimes deviate. And that 90% is actually usually enough to achieve some pretty OUTSTANDING Health Results.

Certainly, everyone I know who eats well 90% of time - is healthy and in great shape.

And, everyone I know who aims to exercise 3-4 times a week - and manages that at least 90% of the time - is healthy and in great shape.

“To Look This Good You Don’t Have to Be ‘Perfect.’ You Just Have to Make Mostly Good ‘Food n’ Exercise’ Decisions!”

I’ve been writing about Health and Sex for quite a long time now.

And, I’ve been fortunate to make friends with some incredible people. Some of the most well-respected and well-known people (ie. Gurus) in the Health field. And, in the Dating/Sex/Relationships field.


Many of these people put out a projection of themselves as PERFECT.

For instance…

The Health Gurus claim to eat perfectly all the time.

Yet, I can tell you that it’s almost never, ever, the case.

The best example I can think of is a guy who claims to be the World’s leading authority on Raw, Veganism.

He preaches that eating a diet made up of nothing but plant food (veg, fruit, nuts and seeds) is the answer to your Health Prayers. And, he makes a FORTUNE doing it.

And, 90% of the time I think he eats as he describes.

However…

I know, for a FACT (and, I cannot tell you how I know, but I know… ) that this guy eats Beef-Burgers 2 or 3 times a month.

Imagine that…

A guy who preaches Raw Veganism - eating Beef-burgers 2 or 3 times a month.

Crazy huh.

I’m only telling you this to help you to realize that NOBODY is PERFECT (even when Millions of people believe they are!)
